Your peacebuilding toolkit

Welcome to the Peacebuilding Centre's resources page. Here, peacebuilding practitioners can find a curated list of handbooks and tools to support their work in fragile states. We gather good practice gleaned from donors and NGOs. Explore our thematic sectors to find the tools you need. While there is always pressure to publish new material, our experience is that many lessons have already been learned and documented. There are few places where they have been assembled for easy access. The older hammer may still be the best one in your toolbox.

Peacebuilding tools

An institution needs to decide whether to improve its skills in working IN, ON or AROUND conflict. The Compendium of Operational Tools is divided into 3 clusters:

Early-Warning/Early Response - designed to work directly ON root causes of conflict and identify strategic responses.

Peace and Conflict Impact Assessment - designed for those who do not work ON root causes of conflict but work IN fragile states and wish to DO NO Harm.  It will assess the impact of a particular project on the peace and conflict dynamics in a community.

Assessing State Fragility - designed to assess where a country fits on the fragility continuum, which signals that special care must be taken when engaging with that country.

Thematic sectors

Experts have developed good practice in specific sectors such as Business, Small Arms, Gender, Media, etc. Find documents, guides, and good practice related to conflict resolution, reconciliation, governance, and more. Our aim is to provide you with targeted support for your specific areas of focus.
